1.Somanatha jyotirlingam
Gujarat jyotirlingas.
Somnatha Jyotirlingam is the first among the Dwadasa Jyotirlingas.The temple is located in the Prabhasapatanam.

History:

In the past, Dakshaprajapati had 27 daughters and he married, 27 daughters to the moon, but the moon has shown more love on Rohini among all of Those.Remaining 26 wives observed the behaviour of the moon and those 26 wives explained to these their father (Dakshaprajapati).On that time Dakshaprajapathi told to the moon several times, but the moon does not change his attitude(he shows love on Rohini).On that time Dakshana prajapathi gives a curse to the moon. Because of these the moon losses his glittering character. The moon went to the town of Prabhasapatanam for the ransom and prays for Lord Shiva. Finally, moon impressed lord Shiva by making a yagnam. And Lord Shiva gives a boon to the moon. As per moon wishes, Lord Shiva derived as Jyotirlinga in prabhasapatanam.


2.sri mallikarjuna Jyotirlingam

Sri mallikarjuna Jyotirlingam is the second among the Dwadasa Jyotirlingas.The temple is located in the srisailam.

History: 

In past, Lord Shiva and Parvathi together, has been tested Vinayaka and Kumaraswamy. This test is to bathe in the holy rivers on earth. Kumaraswamy went to the earth on his vehicle peacock, But Ganesha is not as simple as doing this, because of Ganesha vehicle does not support to do these (peacock flying on the sky, but Vinayaka vehicle, it is not possible to fly on the sky to reach fastly to the earth.)When he prays his parents with devotion to Ganesha, he remembers that he gets the most sacred around the world. so the Ganesha decided that and he did Pradaksanalu to Shiva and Parvathi. finally, Lord Vinayaka won the test and lord Vinaya get married to Buddhi and Siddhi. Because of this Kumaraswamy went to srisailam. Lord Shiva and Parvathi went to Srisailam due to the love on the Kumaraswamy, In this way, Parvathi Amma is called Bhramarambika Devi in ​​Srisailam. Lord Shiva also derived as Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy. In this way, the second jyotirlingam was formed in Dwadasa jyotirlinga

3.Mahakaleshwar jyotirlinga

Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlingam is the third jyotirlingam among the Dwadasa Jyotirlingas.These temple located in the ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

History

The Vedapriyadu is a Brahmin who lives in the town of Ujjain and he is a Shiva devotee,
 His four sons are also Shiva devotees. A monster named Dushanudu earned a boon from Brahma, The monster will rule unethically because of this boon, But Dharma reign continues in Ujjain's duties,
The monster that does not tolerate it goes to war with the great army (armament) on Ujjain,
Furthermore, the Vedapriyadu sons, try to kill that while in the Shiva Puja, But it is clear that the Vedapriyadu sons believed that it is impossible to win Ujjani on the monster because it is a small kingdom.
vedapriyadu sons are doing Shiva pooja to save themselves from the monster. That monster tries to kill that son of Vedapriyadu, finally, Lord Shiva appears and rescues the Vedapriyadu sons, In the desire to the sons of Vedapriyadu, Lord Shiva also derived as Mahakaleshwar jyotirlinga. In this way, the third jyotirlingam was formed in Dwadasa jyotirlingam.

 4.omkareshwara Jyotirlingam


Madhya Pradesh jyotirlingas.
Omkareshwara jyotirlingam is the forth jyotirlingam among the Dwadasa Jyotirlingas.These temple located in omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh.

History:

In the past Naarada Maharshi went to Vindhya mountain. Vindhya mountain gives respect to the Naarada marshi and welcomed him in a polite manner. Afterwards, Vindhya mountain said to Narada Maharshi, "I am the king of the mountain, I have a lot of wealth, There is no deficit in my life". On that time Narada Maharshi said that as like these," when compare to Meru mountain, you not equal to him".In this situation, Vindhya mountain suffered, so he went to Omkara kshetram, And he did penance about Lord Shiva. finally lord shiva impressed with Vindhya mountain penance. Lord Shiva grants him a boon due to the penance of the Vindhya Mountain. Lord Shiva also derived as omkareshwara Jyotirlingam. In this way, the fourth jyotirlingam was formed in Dwadasa jyotirlingas.


5.kedaranath jyotirlingam

Uttarakhand jyotirlingas.

KedaranathJyotirlingam is the fifth jyotirlingam among the Dwadasa Jyotirlingas.These temple located in the kedarnath, Uttarakhand.

History:

Dharma goddess sons Naranarayanalu was born with the blessing of Lord Vishnu. They are settled on the Himalayan Mountain at Kedareshwara Peak, They were penance for Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, who is grateful for their penance give they to a boon. According to their wishes, Lord Shiva came to Kedarnath. When the Pandavas come to the Himalayas Mountains, Shiva want to test them, Lord Shiva changed his appearance, and changes as a bull.This is not known to the Pandavas, these bull is run away from pandavas. Pandavas stops that bull. and Pandavas makes that bull into pieces. Finally, Then Lord Shiva appeared to them, and Kedareshwara Jyotirlingam emerged as per their wish.

            6.Bhimeshwar jyotirlingam

Maharashtra jyotirlingas.


Bhimeshwar jyotirlingam is the sixth jyotirlingam among the Dwadasa Jyotirlingas.These temple located in the Bhimeshwar, Maharashtra.

History:

Kumbhakarni's son Bhimaasura makes a great penance, bhimasura get a boon from lord Brahma.people suffered because of Bhimaasura boon.Similarly, kameshwarudu is the king of pathalam, then bhimaasura won the pathalam.He captures Kameshwarudu.When Kameshwarudu is doing pooja for Lord Shiva the Bhimeshwarudu goes there angry,and he says to I kill you,but kameshwarudu never fear about him.kameshwarudu trusted that Lord Shiva will protect from Bhimasura. So the kameshwarudu doing pooja to lord shiva. on that time Bhimasura try to break down the Shiva lingam. Then Shiva comes out of that statue and kills Bhimasura.According to the wishes of the Gods, Lord Shiva became Jyotirlinga.In this way, the sixth jyotirlingam was formed in Dwadasa jyotirlingas.
